Fs17 Seasons Map Customisation

Question

iconBig.png

This is a small tutorial on how map creators can customise their maps for seasons and which XML files, could the map creator include, to get the map "totally" adapted.

  • CUSTOMISED SEASONS XML FILES: We have to look for customised seasons files included by the map creator. If we can not find any of those seasons_?????.xml files inside the map, means that the map is using the standard setup for seasons.

  1. Animals.xml ==> seasons_animals.xml

  2. daylight.xml ==> seasons_daylight.xm

  3. economy.xml ==> seasons_economy.xml

  4. growth.xml ==> seasons_growth.xml

  5. repairFactors.xml ==> seasons_repairFactors.xml

  6. textures.xml ==> seasons_textures.xml

  7. weather.xml ==> seasons_weather.xml

You can find the template of these files in "\data" directory in the seasons mod:

Part of this configuration created by map creator cwill be saved in the CAREERSAVEGAME XML FILE:

Settings. This is the general settings for the mod

XML Custom Files

seasons_animals.xml

This file establish the animal feeding and breathing settings. Be careful if editing.

seasons_daylight.xml

This is a very important settings file. In here we will define the Latitude of the map,

<daylight>    <latitude>51.9</latitude>

Is really affecting to the map if we change this value?

Will be nice if you find how to deal with this Latitude value to post here for all of us.

seasons_economy.xml

Here we have several settings, but for me the most important is the behaviour of the map when selling bales, strow, silage, and the price multiplier, etc... Seasons is giving 0 value when you sell strow, they said is not relistic, but you can modify this if you want that the player get money for their straw sales

Seasons_growth.xml

This is a real game changing part, where to have to be sure to plan when, what and where you will do your tasks, to avoid no germination and to get harvest, plowed and seede with winter seeds before Frozen ground appear.

Seasons_repairFactors.xml

As its name says, you can work here with costs of repairing,

Seasons_textures.xml

Here you can define new replacement textures for your map, different from the standard seasons developed textures.

Seasons_weather.xml

I will dedicate a special chapter to this file

I think for our streamers that goes in explaining seasons, this could provide different approaches for storytelling around seasons.

Nice write up Prom. I just installed the snow mask on my map last night and I'm just beginning to explore the seasons mod, Its default at the moment but I'm interested in tinkering a bit so the explanation you provided will be helpful.

Will do, it looks like my first task though is going to be changing out a fair number of trees that did not change with the season.

@Darin Cassell makes a fantastic job doing this replacement of textures of trees and maybe he can also add here how he did with Kernstadt.

This will be very informative for the rest of map makers.

Go for it Cdog, you know as much as I do and probably more.....had I known Prom would be saying such kind words, I would have rotated all his new trees so they would not be so uniformly aligned.
