Website Migration

Recommended Posts

I am pleased to say the whole website will be migrating to a new software on the 8th of July, while the migration is in progress the site will be unavailable, I can not predict how long it will be down but after a test migration has been completed I will have a better idea and will let you all know.

We have been working on this for a while setting up the new software and creating cool stuff for the members to use.

The reasons for migrating are partly backend management and partly front end usability, to create the site you use at the moment currently takes in excess of 60+ addons JawdropJawdropJawdrop and any functionality apart from the forum core is a hack of some degree. So to make my life easier in the back end management and give the staff and members improved functionality we decided to move to a better software.

I will post some screen shots later of what you can expect and so you can get a feel of the new software before the change comes in to effect on the 8th of July.

The only experience of anything like this was a very early Arma3 Altis Life server that I ran from my living room. When it got used more we had to rent server space and migrate everything over but what the tech's did was to get a copy of everything we had and when the day came for the change over we simply activated the new server (with the same URL) and shut down my noisy slow unresponsive piece of sh... garbage.

I've no idea if that would work in this situation, plus there were only like 20 users on the server at that time :p

If only it was as simple mate:( all user group permissions will have to be redone, all application permissions will need tweaking at least a bottle of gin will be required:D all links will be redone or redirected then we will need to do some testing and then move members back in to the correct groups.

As I said I had no idea how it would work for you. All I had to do was pass over copies of the custom files for things like skins, vehicles etc and about 10 minutes before the due time I announced that the server would be down for a few minutes and everyone had to log out (to update the SQL files) then I passed over those files and when they logged back in they were directed to the new rented server and everyone had everything they had before the change. Don't forget I was on mumble or something with the tech's and gave them admin rights to my server so they could copy/paste what they needed :D

I wish it could be that simple for you but with all the permissions/links and mods plus a thousand other things I can't even imagine, I think you're going to have one hell of a headache before it's all over. Try brandy instead of gin, brandy doesn't give me the hangover that white spirits do.

Good luck mate,

John.
